They often say the eyes are the most expressive part of the face. Well, in cartooning -- not necessarily. The mouth can be so elastic, so rubbery, that you can exaggerate it into all sorts of expressive positions. One of the first principles of drawing the cartoon mouth is "Squash and Stretch," as shown here.
