On my Facebook Fan Page, I was discussing the importance of getting a "Light Box" with an aspiring artist named Amber. As I was typing an answer, a memory from out of the blue hit me, and I was so glad it did. It was bittersweet, but I wanted to share it with you. Here's what I wrote:
     

"They aren't that expensive. You can get a good one for fifty bucks - and they last forever. I still use the same one my mother got me when I was 13! Back then they were huge, cumbersome metal boxes. I'd love to get a new one, only the sentimentality won't let me. Here's a true story: The lights on my lightbox seemed to last forever. From the time I was 13, until I was in my mid-thirties, not a single light ever burned out. As I said earlier, my mother had given it to me, to support my interest in animation when I was young. The week that she passed away, the lights went out on the lightbox. I haven't been able to bring myself to replace it. I'm not sure I ever will."

Its nice to have people who believe in you, it gets you through the times when you don't believe in yourself, I never had a light box, or anyone who really supported my talent, hence the 20 year hiatus, but now with my loving wife whom I adore, she has given me the support I've needed to restart something I love.  I did however have a light brite board, I really do miss that!!
